  tired from another long day i entered home and immediately knew something was wrong.

  it was very quiet and the only light on was in the kitchen.

  entering the room it was spotless, clean dishes and glasses shining in the dishrack of the sink.

  Because they try to enforce a one-size-fits-all lifestyle that is not for everybody. If my memory doesn't fail me, that's Ray Franz diagnostic in "In search ..." and I agree completely. Some people are strong enough to say "enough is enough" and leave for good, even thinking that JW "have the truth". I did that myself after a year in a emotional rollercoaster; only four years later I found "the truth about the truth". But my sister, for instance, is not emotionally strong enough to break away completely, and has been in and out for fifteen years. I think this problem affects both men and women, but somehow men seem to be able to cope better with it.

  Are people getting Brainier?

  an article in the daily express today cites a study that claims the average person is getting brainier.it claims,.

  "the average child in britian today would have been hailed a genius 60 years ago".

  do you think this is true?.

  Well Sleepy, I think you're asking two very different questions here.

  If people are getting brainier, I don't think so. What I think is that the education system in developed countries is more efficient now than it was 50 years ago and takes better advantage of kid's intellectual capacity.

  That the JW will have more trouble converting middle-class people will be a consequence of widespread information via Internet, more than anything else.

  Pretty much like it is now. Jeho-bah will spare Switzerland because it's a neutral country.

  We'll eventually accept the Euro. Even the British will.

  Fondue, raclette and Lindt & Sprungli chocolate.

  What will the animals eat?

  It's their problem, not mine.

  I'm hoping the movie will bring something to the story that I found sorely missing when I read the books: life.

  COMF, when you read a book it is your own imagination what gives life to the story. Plus, some characters and situations in LOTR are very methaforic, and you have to see it in that light.

  I'm really sorry you missed the greatness of Tolkien's books, because there aren't too many books like that around. Perhaps it was too much to ask from a Texan.

  this is something that you know said that was going to happen and that it would be the start of future economic downfall all over the world.

  The Argentinian government is preparing a major swap of bonds within the next couple of months. It's still not clear how compulsory it's going to be, but it is a technical default anyways. What is also uncertain is if the government will have the money for the payments due in January; most people bet it won't. Be it as it may, the default will not come as a surprise to anyone and the market has been accounting for it for a long time.

  If Scientist Mastered DNA???

  some day maybe scientist will be able to read dna.. and maybe someday they might learn how to program dna with computers.. this to me doesn't seem that far away.. when they do they will be able to create new life forms, in effect play god.. do you think will man make life vastly better then when he can design it useing dna or someother molecule to make new life.. will altruisim guide him in what he does with his new abilities?.

  if someone lived a trillion x longer than you, and had a billion x more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?.

  Actually scientist can't read the DNA of complex organisms yet. They can decode it, which is not the same thing. The process of identification of new genes will keep biologists (and statisticians) busy many decades. That's where the money is now

  Thanks for the link. I agree 100% with the girl who wrote it. Especially with this paragraph:

  If you have to argue, be constructive--start a website, write a book, paint, start a support group, something like that. If you're seriously angry and you have a case, sue. Otherwise, move on.

  A good piece of advice for "some of the finest posters" (AlanF dixit) who spend hours and hours arguing with You Know, Friday, Rex B13 and the like.

  2001 vs 1975

  in 1975 jws had several things going for them.

  the ex-jws that left because of earlier prophetic failures had no real way to reach us.

  most jws were of a newer generation, eager for something to happen given the times we lived in.

  JWs are so bored and tired that when 9-11 happened, it was barely a wake up call

  My impression is that there's more double-thinking than ever going on among young JW. On one hand they are looking forward to the New Order but, at the same time, they are more practical than the old generation when it comes to realistically planning for their future.

  For example, my younger brother, who is an active JW and Ministerial Servant, graduated from College this semester. My mother told me the other day that he was putting the money together to come to visit me in Switzerland for his next summer vacations (that is, January 2003). So, according to his schedule, Armaggedon is not due until 2004.
